Congratulations to Ashley Meyer, David Meyer, and Connor Schepers on receiving First Communion this past weekend.
Walk with Haiti is taking place this weekend. If you are interested in walking or making a donation, please contact the school office.
Looking Ahead Progress reports-April 18, Crazy Hair Day-April 18, May Crowning- May 2.
May Crowning will be May 2nd at the 8:15 Mass. Second graders wear their First Communion clothes. Please have your child come to school in his/her First Communion clothes with a St. Malachy uniform in a bag to change into after Mass. Parents are welcome come to the classroom after Mass to pick up the dress clothes.
Weekly Agenda
Math: We will learn transformations, identify a fractional part of a set, multiply a one digit and a two digit number, identify right, obtuse, and acute angles, and measure line segments using millimeters.
Phonics: This week we will code multi-syllable words, learn final, stable syllable -ture, learn sight words- part 10, take an assessment, and learn prefixes over-, pre-, and un-.
Reading: We will be reading the selection, Pushing Up the Sky. The reading contract was sent home today and is due Wednesday. This week we will work on the skill of problem and solution. On Friday we will present this play to other classes in the school. Students may bring in a small blanket or towel to help dress for the part.
Spelling: List 24 and the spelling contract were assigned for the week.
Social Studies: We will continue with Unit 4. This week we will work with map skills, talk about family heritage, and read a bar graph.
Science: We will begin Ch 10: Energy. This is a short chapter with only three lessons. As such, we will take a chapter test on Friday. A study guide will come home on Tuesday.
Handwriting: We will learn uppercase cursive letters Z, V, and X.
Religion: We will be learning about working for peace and justice.
English: We will continue to learn about pronouns.
Writing: We will be reading, discussing, and writing poetry this month. At the end of the month, we will put together a book of poems.
