Congratulations to Colin who received his first Holy Communion this past weekend.
The walk for Haiti is taking place in April. If you aren't going to walk, but would like to make a sponsor donation, you may do so in the school office.
Our class planned the lunch for tomorrow, Tuesday, April 8.
May Crowning in Friday, May 2 at 8:15. Second graders wear their first Communion clothes. Please have your child come to school in his/her first Communion clothes and have them bring the school uniform in a bag. After Mass, they will change into their school uniforms. Parents are welcome to come to the classroom any time during the day to pick up the first Communion clothes. Any clothes not picked up will go home with the child that afternoon.
A look ahead: Progress reports go home on April 18. Crazy hat day is also April 18.
Reading: This week's selection is "Pushing up the Sky." The reading book will come home on Monday and Thursday.
Phonics: This week we will be introduced to ten more sight words, prefixes over-, under-, pre-, in-, im- ir- & un-, and French endings -ice, -ine, & -ile.
Spelling: Spelling list #24 was sent home today. Six words from the green list must be written in cursive. They are: side, kite, way, tall, mouse & sure. The final test will be on Friday.
English: This week we will work more with pronouns I, me & we.
Writing: We are starting a unit of poetry. This week students will write acrostic, haiku and diamante poems.
Social Studies: We will read a bar graph and identify characteristics and stories from different cultures.
Math: We are working with perpendicular lines, fractional part of a set, multiplying a one digit number to a two digit number, identifying right, acute and obtuse angles, and using millimeters with line segments.
Handwriting: We will be introduced to capital cursive U. Y, & Z.
Religion: We are exploring fair and unfair actions and how to be peacemakers.
Bible verse: Happy are those who are fair with others. Happy are those who make peace. Matthew 5:6, 9
