SIXTH GRADE   HOME ROOM

March 17 2008

Hello everyone,

WOW! The fourth quarter already. I can't believe how fast the year is going. I was pleased to see many grades go up during the third quarter and missing assignments go down. Hopefully everyone is getting the hang of middle school. We are hoping that  all middle school students learn to be responsible for getting to class each day with the materials they need and the work completed that needs to be done or if it is done, make sure it is with them. I talked to an eighth grade boy Friday who was so proud of how organized he was and how it helped him find things and get them in on time. Hopefully your sixth graders will have that down by the end of the year. Some of them were born ready and we surely appreciate them as well.

Again, next year there will be NO assignment board so the students will need to be responsible in writing down assignments in each class. Last year we took the board away at the end of the year.

All students are encouraged to ask me about any Math questions at the end of each day..  I have ASAP on Tuesdays and am willing to help them with problems at that time as well. I am also here on Monday and Wednesday. On Thursday I help Mrs. Doan with Math Pentathlon. Those that cannot stay after may come up during the final 10-15 minutes of the day to "get straightened out." For homework to be effective it must be done correctly.

3rd Quarter Awards:

Student award: Cole Petty. Cole worked very hard and brought up all his grades or maintained them. He made the Honor Roll, kept missing assignments to one and is working really hard to be organized. Way to go Cole!

Christian Witness award: Kyle Vassilo. The students wrote that Kyle is very nice, and acts very "Catholic". He includes everyone. is always optimistic about everything and works very hard at everything he does. You are well deserving Kyle.

RELIGION

All grades: Mrs. Wagoner has posted the Tic Tac Toe assignment sheets on the bottom of this page. Now you can check here to work on them at home.

Grade 6: The sixth grade Religion award went to Katie Hiskes. Katie always goes above and beyond what is expected of her. She continually studies hard and does outstanding on the tests, homework and projects. We just began Chapter 15 today called, "Hope and Faithfulness". The focus is that the precepts of the Church help us live as God's people and face life's challenges with faith, hope, and love. The test is scheduled for Monday, March 24th. The unit 4 Tic Tac Toe will be due April 16th.

Grade 7: The Religion award in seventh grade went to Megan Unger. Megan is an awesome student who strives for perfection and is very conscious of doing her best. Congrats Megan! Seventh graders are studying chapter 16 called, " Pentecost". The focus is that God continues to reveal himself to us, and the Spirit continues to empower us. The test is scheduled for this Thursday, March 20th. The unit 4 test is Wednesday, March 26th, the last day before Spring Break. The unit 4 Tic Tac Toe assignments are due then as well.

Grade 8: The eighth grade Religion award goes to Daniel Flood. Daniel continues to pay attention, participate, study hard, take his time on assignments and ace the tests. Wish I had a whole classroom of Daniels. Thanks! The eighth graders will be studying chapter 16, "Seeking a Common Prayer". The focus is that the Holy Spirit works in all Christian traditions to bring their members to the truth of the Gospel. The test is Wednesday, March 26th. The unit 4 test if Wednesday, April 9th and the Tic Tac Toe are due then too.

All grades have used the laptops to research Haiti and the living conditions. Hopefully they will become aware of the need for help. Don't forget to sign up to walk April 12 or turn in a donation or sponsor someone.

You can click on "kids" (6th) or "teens" (7th or 8th), click on units, grade level and quizzes or activities which go along with the chapters.  You can take the quiz a couple times through to help study.  It is really pretty helpful and may be a fun way to help study.
