Middle School English will include the study of grammar, spelling & vocabulary, and writing.

 

We are continuing to focus on writing.  I will pull in the elements of conventions, grammar and style into the students' writing.  Students' will learn such skills as writing effective leads and endings, adding voice, using strong verbs and adding detail appropriately. 

 

The students this year have a Write Source book.  This is a great reference tool for them.  It has a lot of information that will help them in grammar, writing or anything having to do with English.  I give two grades: one for English and the other for Spelling.  Grades will be calculated on a total point basis.  Please keep in mind that Spelling will not be weekly.  

 

Students will be given a participation grade which will be figured into their final English grade.  I expect students to bring materials, follow instructions, not talk and be on task.  If the students do not do these things, their point will be taken away for that day.
