MIDDLE SCHOOL SUMMER READING – 2008

EACH STUDENT MUST READ 2 NOVELS THIS SUMMER.  EACH GRADE LEVEL HAS 1 BOOK THAT EVERYONE MUST READ AND A CHOICE OF 1 BOOK FROM THE OTHER 2 LISTED.

STUDENTS WILL TAKE A WRITTEN TEST OVER THEIR MUST READ BOOK.  THEY WILL TAKE AN ACC TEST AND DO A PROJECT OVER THE SECOND BOOK.

 

 

PROJECT

COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PROJECT ON A 22X28 INCH PIECE OF POSTERBOARD.  DIVIDE THE POSTERBOARD INTO 4 BOXES ( + ).

 

IN THE FIRST BOX CREATE A NEW BOOK COVER.  INCLUDE THE TITLE AND AUTHOR.  USE THE WHOLE SPACE, BE COLORFUL AND CREATIVE.  IT MUST BE HAND MADE AND NOT COMPUTER GENERATED.

 

IN THE OTHER 3 BOXES DISPLAY 3 OF THE 5 LESSONS LISTED BELOW.

        1.  15 EVENT TIMELINE OF THE MAJOR HAPPENINGS IN THE

              STORY

       

2.  CREATE A GLOSSARY OF UNFAMILIAR WORDS (MINIMUM

              OF 15 WORDS

           * WRITE WORD

           * SENTENCE FROM THE BOOK THAT INCLUDES THE

                 WORD

*AN ANTONYM FOR THE WORD

 

3.  CHARACTER COMPARISON – SELECT ONE CHARACTER

       FROM THE STORY AND ANSWER THE FOLLOWING

       QUESTIONS IN A VENN DIAGRAM.

     *WHAT TRAITS DOES THE CHARACTER HAVE THAT

        I DO NOT HAVE?

     *WHAT TRAITS DO I HAVE THAT THE CHARACTER

        DOES NOT HAVE?

*WHAT TRAITS DO THE TWO OF US SHARE?

 

CONSIDER ALL KINDS OF TRAITS – PHYSICAL APPEARANCE, PERSONALITY, CHARACTER, OUTLOOK ON LIFE, ETC.

USE DETAIL AND LIST AT LEAST 8 TRAITS IN EACH CIRCLE

 

        4. WRITE A 15 VERSE POEM TO SUMMARIZE THE STORY

 

        5.  CREATE A 5 BOX COMIC STRIP COMPLETE WITH

             ILLUSTRATIONS AND DIALOGUE BUBBLES.

 

ALL AREAS NEED TO BE PRESENTED NEATLY.  USE COLOR, DESIGN AND ORGANIZATION.
