Dear Parents and Students,

I hope everyone had a good first week back to school. I am learning the students names and faces. The students are learning the rules and procedures of the third grade. I am looking forward to meeting all of the parents Wednesday evening at the Parent Information Night. Have your calendars with you so you can sign up for story time on Mondays or Fridays. I also need someone to be the coordinator for the book orders. Let me know if you would be willing to do this.

Thank you for returning all the emergency forms. It helped us to be more prepared.

This year any medicine you want your child to receive at school you must send it to the office. For example, your child has a cough or a head ache you must send in cough drops or Tylenol. I would send any medication they might need through out the year. The office does not supply any medication anymore.

Reminders:
Wednesday: Parent Information Night 7pm Noll Hall
Thursday: Trash bag sales begin.
Thursday: No Brownsburg PM Bus service We have a full day of school.

Spelling: Standard 3.6.8

Students will spell words with short vowel sounds.
Dictation Sentences:

The children clap with their hands.
Pat took a small step.

Reading: Standard 3.1.6 3.1.5 3.3.1 3.3.4

Students will read the story First Day Jitters.
Comprehension: Character, setting , plot
Vocabulary: downstairs, nervous, fumbled, nonsense, trudged
Word Parts: compound words
Test Friday over the story and vocabulary

Writing Workshop: . Standard 3.4.3 and 3.5.5

Students will write in their writer's notebook.
Students will share their writing with each other.

Grammar: Standard 3.6.2

Students will write correctly sentences of statement, command, question, or exclamation with final punctuation.

Math:

Students will solve word problems, use the calendar, make amounts of money using the fewest amounts of coin and computations.

Social Studies 3.2.1 3.5.1

Students will study chapter 1 Communities are People.
Test will be on Friday

Religion

Students will study chapter 1 The Holy Spirit Guides Us to Become One.
We will have an open book test on Friday. We will do this together as a class so I can teach the students how to find the answers in the chapter. We will highlight the main ideas in the chapter as we read the lessons.
